This research addresses the effectiveness of the role of professional school counselors on the post secondary plans of high school seniors. This study identifies the factors that impact school counselors’ effectiveness in supporting college readiness, and assesses the correlation between this perceived effectiveness and rates of student applications for college entrance. In addition, this study will seek to determine whether or not a correlation exists between counselor beliefs about college and career potential, and subsequent counselor actions to implement college and career readiness curricula, such as the National Office of School Counselor Advocacy’s (NOSCA) Eight Components of College and Career Readiness Counseling.
